Finally the Botamochi makes its presence. There are many historical remains in Shonan, which is located right next to the historic city of Kamakura. Here, we will focus on the memorial event for the religious persecution of Nichiren Shonin, which takes place at the Ryuko-ji temple. The Kamakura period experienced the thunder of the Mongolian invasion. Why was the execution of Nichiren Shonin cancelled? How did the people pass this tale down? Try rambling between history and legend. Also, don't forget to taste the Botamochi.

The restless waves, sometimes gentle and sometimes intense, make you feel the swell of history.
In September, which is during the typhoon season, the memorial of the religious persecution of the Nichiren Shonin takes place at Ryuko-ji temple.
With believers visiting from all over the country and local worshippers, the temple is packed with people.
The thing, which is essential for this memorial event, is Botamochi (or Japanese Rice dumpling). This Botamochi will be made by the believers and will be dedicated to the temple.

It seems like there is something behind this Botamochi made while chanting the sutra.
The main character is an old woman.
It is said that the weeping old woman presented this Botamochi as a way of reposing the soul of Nichiren Shonin that was taken to the execution site from Kamakura on an unsaddled horse.
